Pipeline Infrastructure Limited ran its maintenance requests through an internal operations dashboard that took about a minute to load. For a tool people open many times a day, a sixty-second wait is not slow, it is a reason to avoid the tool.
Project process
The fix was mostly restraint about what to render. I paginated the data-heavy tables so the dashboard stopped fetching everything up front, added loading states and skeleton screens so the wait was legible rather than blank, and built the interface on a reusable light and dark design system so the patterns held as more screens were added.
Final result
Load time went from around 60 seconds to 2 to 3 seconds, between 20 and 30 times faster.
